History
WhyWomenRun began in 1978, organised by The Y Marathon Club and initially sponsored by Bonne Bell, a company known for supporting women's sports . Back then, women's participation in running events was rare, making WhyWomenRun a pioneering initiative. The event was created with the simple yet powerful goal of promoting and encouraging women of all fitness levels to enjoy an outdoor sporting activity. Our mission has remained consistent since 1978: to encourage women of all ages, from all walks of life, and with varying fitness levels to participate in a welcoming and supportive environment . WhyWomenRun is a fantastic opportunity to connect with other women, enjoy the outdoors, and celebrate your commitment to health and well-being.
